5.2.3 SHEAR BOLT
A shear bolt is provided at the PTO shaft in-
put yoke to protect the drive system during an
overload.
To change the shear bolt, follow this proce-
dure:
1. Clear the area of bystanders, especially
small children.
2. Place all controls in neutral or off, stop en-
gine, set park brake, remove ignition key
and wait for all moving parts to stop before
servicing, adjusting, repairing, or unplug-
ging.
3. Turn PTO shaft by hand to locate the shear
bolt hole.
4. Carefully remove remaining shear bolt us-
ing hammer and punch if necessary. Be
careful not to enlarge the hole.
5. Install the new shear bolt and tighten to its
specifed torque. Do not over-tighten.

NOTE
When replacing shear bolt, use only
standard Grade 5 bolt for all operat-
ing conditions.
